Fashion: Victoria's Secret Destroys Unworn Returned Merchandise

I read this little write up today and thought i should share it with you all.
The Brand Victoria’s Secret is making worldwide headlines this week after The Tampa Tribune reported that the mega-retailer has a policy to destroy unworn returned merchandise.

Regular Victoria's Secret shopper Marie Wolf returned an unworn $70 pair of "Pink" brand sweatpants at a store at the Westshore Plaza a few weeks ago. The sales clerk happily gave Marie a refund, then took a pair of scissors and started cutting the pants in half, explaining that it was store policy.
"I was shocked, because, mind you, these were $70 sweatpants, and there's nothing wrong with them ... The clerk just said, 'I know, but it's our policy.' ... I asked about donating them to Salvation Army, what about Goodwill, what about all the people who lost everything in the tsunami?" ... I told them I won't ever shop with them anymore, and neither will anyone in my family" - Marie Wolf

After contacting the brand's head office, the concerned shopper discovered that destroying returned products is indeed company policy; the clerk erred only in doing it in front of the customer. Since the story broke officials with Victoria's Secret owner Limited Brands declined to comment on the record about their return policy and procedures.

Of course Victoria's Secret isn't the only retailer that destroys some items that customers return. H&M was recently was caught up in controversy after students found trash bins full of cut-up clothes behind stores in New York City. Officials at the fast-growing fashion retailer said it was not their standard practice and would make sure to donate any returned items that could not be sold in stores.

Whether or not Victoria's Secret officially follows H&M's lead remains to be seen.
I think stores should NOT throw & destroy returned items.. what i think they should do with it, is donate it to people in need.. and at the moment items should go to people in need in JAPAN..
I feel so bad for all those that lost their items & homes and everything special to them in the recent earthquakes & tsunami's.
Victorias Secret & H&M PLEASE DONATE your goodies & ANYTHING unwanted that still nice & wearable to JAPAN!!!
